Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

The book I recently finished was Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard.  It is the first book in the Pretty Little Liars series. The genre of Pretty Little Liars is mystery.  The main characters are Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna. It all began in seventh grade when their best friend and most popular of them all, Ali,went missing.  Ali and the girls all had secrets that nobody could know.  For three years all their secrets were safe but then all of a sudden they started to receive text messages from an unknown number who calls him or herself “A”. This person started to find out all of their secrets, even ones that the other girls didn't know.  If you want to find out who murdered Ali and is sending the nasty messages to these girls, you have to read the books.

I would recommend this book to girls because the main characters are girls and there is girly drama that other girls would go through.

Heaven Looks A Lot Like the Mall by Wendy Mass

The book I've just completed is Heaven looks A lot Like the Mall  by Wendy Mass When Tessa suffers a huge accident in gym class, she ends up in heaven or what she thinks is heaven. She realizes that heaven looks alot like her hometown mall. While shes there, she starts to relive her life. Yet, its only her whole dream. She goes through things that she would rather forget. Maybe things that shed rather fix or change.
There is still one problem. Tessa still has to find the answer to one important question out of all of this. You will have to figure it out and if she does it.

I would recommend this book to people who like free verse. Also people who can make a movie in their head. I would say this book is very discriptive at some moments. I especially like the structure of how the book is written. This was definetly a phenomenalread.

The Alchemyst by Michael Scott

The book I recently read was called The Alchemyst by Michael Scott. The book is about twins named Josh and Sophie who are  part of a prophecy in an ancient book called The Book of Abraham the Mage. This book is being gaurded by Nicholas Flamel, an immortal alchemist. Nicholas is guarding this book against a force called the Dark Elders. The Elders are people who existed before humans apeared on earth. These elders helped humans first get on there feet. Then humans became the Elders slaves. The Dark Elders want to bring that way of life back and the only way they can do that is by getting the book Nicholas is protecting.
This book starts out with Josh and Sophie at work. Right now Josh and Sophie don't know anything about the Codex (The Book of Abraham the Mage), the Elders, or about the prophecy they are in. Josh and Sophie are at work when Dr. John Dee enters the book store Josh and Nicolas Flamel work at. Dr. Dee is working with the Dark Elders and attacks the bookshop, an steals all but 2 pages of the Codex. Josh, Nick, and Sophie escape but Nick's wife, Perrenelle, has been kidnapped. Josh, Nick, and Sophie have to save Perry and save the world before the Dark elders do or they are doomed.
The genre of this book is Fantasy and I think this book is for boys and girls because there is a boy and girl character. I really enjoyed this book and think everyone should read it. This book is the first book of a series of currently 4 books.

Heart to Heart by Lurlene McDaniel

The book I just finished reading is Heart to Heart by Lurlene McDaniel. Kassey and Elowyn are best friends. They share everything together. Then one day Elowyn dies in a horrible car accident, which changes Kassey's life forever. On Elowyn's drivers liscence she said she wanted to an orgon donor. However she forgot to tell Kassey this. But now it's too late. Then Kassey shockingly finds out a girl named Arabeth has her best friend, Elowyn's heart.
I would definetly reccomend this book to someone who can handle books because this book has some sad parts in it. One thing that's special about this book is that each chapter is told by a different character. This makes it easier to see what each person is thinking. When I started reading this phenominal book I couldn't stop. You should definetly checkout this book too.

Kira, is crippled, born with a twisted leg she's had to walk with a cane all her life. She is the daughter of a weaver, but when her mother dies the other women turn against her becuase, having a twisted leg, she is no longer any use to the village. Eventually, they hold a trial against her, but they're government, the Council of Guardians, decide to let her live if she repairs and completes a robe for them. As it turns out, Kira is an extremely gifted weaver as well. Kira quickly figures out that things might not be what they seem, and Kira tries to solve the mystery of her village. The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester

The book I read over the summer was called "THE GIRL WHO COULD FLY", by Victoria Forester.  The main character in this book was a girl named Piper. Piper lived on a farm with her mom and dad. Piper has magic powers where she can fly in the air. For example on July 4th her family and friends and some relatives were going to have a July 4th picnic in the backyard. At the picnic there was a fly ball hit by a little boy. Piper went in the air while flying and caught the ball. Piper had to go to a private school. This is all the information i can give you.Bye

                                                                                                                                          Nina N. - Mr. Lubin's class

Hunting Memories by Barb Hendee

The book I chose was Hunting Memories by Barb Hendee. It is a fantasy fiction book. The main character Elisha is a vampire, who is living in Portland with her two companions Phillip a vampire, and Wade a human; who all have telepathy. One day they receive a letter from Rose, another vampire who wants to reach out to others of her kind. Elisha has found out a new way to draw out victim's blood without having to kill them. She wants to share this new information with Rose. Elisha also wants other vampires to come and form a haven and bond against Julian Ashton; a vampire who has been killing his own kind for the past century. She wants to meet Rose face to face, but doesn't know what to expect. She may even be a spy for Julian, but Elisha is willing to risk it. Memories are coming out from the past that all seem to connect with each other.            I enjoyed Hunting Memories by Barb Hendee. I read the summary on the back and thought it would be interesting, I also noticed that it was a vampire book and I enjoy those types of stories. The thing I liked most about the book was the plot. It reminded me a little of the Twilight Saga. I think that anyone who enjoys vampires and creatures living in a world together will enjoy this book.

Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Cover imageThis year I read the book Found by:Margaret Peterson Haddix. Basically this book is about a group of kids who have just discovered that they're really from the past, because they were brought to the future by time travelers to get money. Therefore time got damaged so now Jonah,Chip,Katherine, and Alex all have to travel back to their own time to fix time. That the time travelers damaged by taking them from history. I think that this book is science fiction because there's no such thing as time travel. Also because there's no such thing as an elucidator(a futuristic weapon that can do anything even turn people invisible.)

One of the reasons I liked this book was because there's a lot of adventure in it because they found out chip and Alex are really brothers whereas Chip is a king and Alex is a prince. So they have to travel back to the fifteenth century to fight in a battle to defend the crown. While there's a lot of adventure there's also a lot of drama because everyone is sad because they're scared they'll die and be stuck in the past forever. I would recommend this book to people who like action, adventure, drama, historic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and romance because this book and the others in this series have all of these things in them.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

Cover imageHave you ever wished that you had a special power? Perhaps, invisibility, being able to fly from place to place or even read minds? Well that’s no problem for a young wizard named Harry Potter who can do anything with a flick or tap of hiss wand. The book I’ve chosen is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling. Harry goes to a school under the title Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This is Harry’s second year in Hogwarts and this year’s no walk in the park. Someone or something is petrifying every poor soul in its path (not to mention a teacher’s cat). If someone can’t find who ever or what ever is doing this, Hogwarts will be shut down…FOREVER! Loving the school more than anything, Harry feels it’s up to him to do so. With the help of his two faithful friends Ron, and Hermoine. This book’s genre (which is my definite favorite) is fantasy.

I honestly enjoyed this book because of the suspense, action, and mystery that constantly keeps the reader’s nose in the book and at the edge of their seat. I highly recommend this book to those who like fantasy and/or science fiction, as well as a challenge. I don’t recommend this book to people who enjoy realistic fiction or biographies because this book is far from real. Once again, this is my book recommendation for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Sent by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Cover imageThe amazing book I am reading is Sent by Margaret Paterson Haddix. The gist of my story is that the main characters Jonah, Katherine, Chip, Alex are zapped back in time to the 15th century. Where they find out that Chip is supposed to be King Edward V and Alex was supposed to be Richard, Duke of York. The two characters find out that there uncle is trying to kill them since so he can become king since the boy’s father died. So now Jonah, Katherine, Chip and Alex are trying to fix the past. Will they be able to fix the past and get back to their previous time zone? The book that I am reading contains elements of mystery, adventure and science fiction.

I enjoy this book a lot because it is very interesting and it involves some of my favorite genres mystery and science fiction. The people who may enjoy this book are the people the like genres that this book includes. The other people that will enjoy this book are people that like books that involve the 15th century.

Hidden Talents by David Lubar

Cover imageHidden Talents, written by David Lubar, is an amazingly awesome book. The genre of this magnificent book is realistic fiction. Hidden Talents is about Martin Anderson who gets kicked out of every school he attends because of his mouth. In the last school that would accept him, he made some friends. To Martin, the kids that he meets are perfectly normal. Until one day he does some research and comes to a conclusion that his friends have powers. If you like a book with mystery, but also realistic, then this is the book for you.
Boys in between ages 10-13 would like this book. They would like this for a numbers of reasons. First, most of the main characters are male. Also, these guys are doing stuff boys this age often do. They are bad in school that’s common for boys this age.

I liked the book because it was very interesting. I absolutely love interesting books because they hook me in. I like crazy, random, and interesting books. People who like that kind of stuff are people who would like this book. I would recommend this book to those kind of people.

The Trials of Death by Darren Shan

Cover imageHow would you like it if you had to be thrown in a pit of spikes because your best friend saved you from a wild boar!? Well in the wonderfully horrific tale The Trials of Death by Darren Shan must face certain doom if he does not complete all 5 of his death defying challenges. One may ponder aimlessly looking for questions as to what happened in this horrifingly humorous tale. First before I begin I really should reveal the author and genre. The genius that produced this tale of terror is known as Darren Shan. This fantastically freaky novels classification is fantasy but it also has an enjoyable mix of horror. Here is the gist of this action packed tale. In this book Darren Shan must face five trials of death. The fist fear induced challenge is a seventeen-foot water filled aquatic maze. Next our hero will move on to a path of sterling silver stalacites.then Darren will transfer to the hall of flames, then move to the challenge of wild boars. The fifth challenge still sadly remains unknown. How will Darren survive?
If you put that aside you may be wondering if this horrifying story may not be for you.  This fantastic story is very fast paced. If you can’t keep up this novel this story is certainly not composed to suit your needs.  In addition to being fast paced this book is filled with incredibly gory details. If you’re easy to scare this book will scare the living daylights out of you.  I believe it is clear to see that if you can’t handle gory vampires and ugly monsters this book is clearly not for you!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Brandon R.- Mr. Lubin's class

If the Franks and Vaan Danns are caught the will be taken to work camps and forced to work until they’re too sick or too old to die. This book takes place during 1942 and 1944.

Esperanza Rising- Pam Muñoz Ryan

Cover image One of the books that I have read in the past year was Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan.  This realistic fiction and drama book is about a girl that had a very good life then it starts getting worse and worse by the second.  Esperanza is a girl in Mexico and she always wanted a good life.  Her father has been ambushed and killed when she turned 12. That night her house went into flames.  Esperanza and her mother lost all of their money and all of their things. So they had to go all the way to California to work. It was pretty hard for Esperanza and her mother. Later in the book Esperanza’s mother started to get very ill, so she couldn’t work.

When I read the back of this book I thought that it would be a perfect book for me.  I think that this book belongs to anybody that likes a lot of drama.  They would enjoy this book because there is a play about it and you might enjoy the play. Tangerine by Edward Bloor

Cover imageThe book that I am recommending is Tangerine by Edward Bloor. This book is about a boy named Paul Fisher, who moved from Texas to Tangerine, Florida. When they got to Florida it wasn’t how they imagined it. Tangerine turns out to be very unique and weird place to live. For one thing, Paul’s neighborhood is next to a field where there is a muck fire that has never burnt out. Tangerine is very unusual. To find out more you should read this book. The genre of this book is realistic fiction.
I like this book because it is full of surprising and weird things that happen. I also like this book because it doesn’t have a lot of characters and isn’t very confusing. I would recommend this book to people that like soccer and people who like a little weirdness in the story. People who like realistic fiction will also like this book. Overall this is a very good book. You should read it.

When the two girls move to Los Angeles to move out of their comfort zones, they get picked to be on a new reality television show called L.A. Candy and it changes their whole lives. Involved in this book are a lot of heartbreaks, a lot of drama, and a lot of wondering of what could happen next.
I would recommend this book to teenagers because it has some inappropriate behavior and bad language. Still this series is fantastic with its dramatic story line and characters. This series has three books in it so far and it has never left me un-entertained yet. I hope this recommendation helps you.

When Tyray gets tired of being teased at school, he gets something that changes his life. This results in a life or death situation. The genre of this book is realistic fiction.

The story flowed together very nicely, and it taught me a lesson at the end. I would recommend this book to people who like realistic fiction books and some drama. The socials are rich and live on the west side of town where everything is nice unlike what the greasers live in.
I liked The Outsiders because I'm into books about violence and gangs. This books about violence and gangs. This book has both which is even better. I think Jose would like The Outsiders because he is ,also into violence and loves gangs. Which makes him perfect for The Outsiders.

The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

Carter and Sadie Kane are two siblings who were separated when their mother died. During Visitation Day, the only day Carter and their father get to see Sadie, their father takes them to the British Museum. Moments after they are inside and the Curator and the guards have left them alone, their father smashes an artifact, The Rosetta Stone. While doing so he releases five egyptian gods and he himself becomes possessed by a god and disapears. Now Sadie and Carter must venture to find their father and to save the world from the evil egyptian god, Set.  The genre of The Red Pyramid is Science fiction.

One of the reasons why I like this book is because of the author, Rick Riordan. My favorite author. He wrote the Percy Jackson Series, one of the best series that I've ever read. So as soon as I saw this book, I started to read it this year. Another reason why I chose this book is because of the genre of the book. I like to read Science Fiction books. A Living Nightmare by Darren Shan

I am recommending Cirque Du Freak A Living Nightmare by Darren Shan book one in the 12 part series.  The genre is fantasy.  The main character is Darren shan.   His friend and him, steve, read a lot of horror comics.  They go to a freak show called Cirque Du Freak.  Steve saw that one of the performers is a vampire that performed with a spider.  After the show steve stays, and talk to the vampire because he wants to be a vampire too, but to do that he has to abandon every thing.  Darren hears him saying that, so he doesn't talk to Steve for a while.  Darren steals the spider from the vampire and it bites steve, and the only cure is one that the vampire has.  Darren has to find a way to save steve before he dies.
I liked this book because it is full of twist, and keep you thinking the whole time.  People who also like this book are 5-8 grade boys because it has a lot of action, vampires, wolf men, and little people who eat everything.  Also, people who like to read books from Darren Shan. Blade: Playing Dead by Tim Bowler

Blade Playing Dead by Tim Bowler is a violent book. I would recommend this book for boys because they would like the violence. The gist of the story is how a kid named Blade has to keep a low profile by trying to play dead. Blade has to dye his hair a different color to stay low key. He uses his safe money to help try to get out of the city. He has to try and stay away from the patrolled areas because he has a bad reputation with the cops. He got his name Blade from the way he can handle a knife. He helps this girl named Becky and her "kid" Jaz tyr to escape and get away from the city and her old gang.

I liked the book because my friend Elijah Richmon recommended it to me. I'd recommend it because it shows a true part in life because of the gangs, kids living on the street, stealing money, and sleeping in houses that are vacant for the time being. I also liked it because it is a very fast paced book. It also shows that the author did some research on the parts he put in the book. I think the boys would like it because they are the ones who like violence and bad language and knife fighting.  This is why i would recommend Blade.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Have you ever played games before; well in the city of Panem, they play games a little differently. Winning the game means fame and fortune, and losing means certain death; at least that's how they play in The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Colllins is a science fitction book about a teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen who takes place for Primrose, her little sister, when she is chosen  to compete in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a death fight between twenty-four teens from twelve districts (one girl and one boy from  each district) and they are put into an arena to survive, fight and hunt for their lives. Now Katniss is in the fight not only for her life, but also for the rebellion that is rising and for love.
I really enjoyed this book because the author would use an extreme amount of imagery it would make you feel as if you were there and you were Katniss. In addition to that the ending of the chapters gave you that "WOW" moment evrey once and a while. It would keep you turning the pages and "hungry for more." So read this book and find out if Katniss survives in the games in the three book series of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Demonata Series by Darren Shan

The book or books i would recommend is the Demonata Series a fantasy series by Darren Shan. This series is about a war between humans and demons. The man characters are three kids named Grubbs, Kernel, and Bec. These three kids are the hosts of an ancient power known as the Kah-Gash. This ancient power has the power to destroy an entire universe when reunited. The kids have to come together to save the world of the demons. The demons are an all powerful race of everlasting disgusting creatures that could only be killed by magic. Their master that has just been born has an everlasting soul, his name is Death. Their is a demon master (a more powerful race of demons that control the lesser demons) by the name of Lord Loss that feeds on the fear of humans. he is also a main character.

I would recommend this book to only people who like a book that has a lot to do with horror. Like blood and awful looking and sounding monsters. I liked this book because I like the sound and look of blood and creepy stuff. This book was intriguing to me because I like the super natural, like demons, magic, werewolves, and zombies.

Jackie and Me by Dan Gutman

The book I would recommend is Jackie & Me.  this book is a scientific non-fiction by Dan Gutman.  This book is about a kid named Joe Stoshack.  Always in the beginning of the book he plays baseball but that isn't big in the book at all.  Joe isn't an ordinary kid he can travel back in time with baseball cards.  Only him and a few other people know what he can do.  So he heard about Jackie Robinson and wants to meet him.  But Joes mom never lets him go.  Joe always persuades her to let him.  His mom can't say no.  Joe go to the store and buys a Jackie Robinson baseball card.  He packs his stuff including a baseball card from his time.  Then he holds the card up to his chest and goes back to 1947.  Joe learned everything about Jackie and has a blast.

I liked the book because Jackie Robinson is a role model to me.  He's not what you think.  He did everything.  He was in the army, he played football, basketball, and he helped his mom raise money for the family.  All that in college, also he played in a negro league.  But Branch Rickey wanted him to break the color barrier.  So also Branch Rickey broke the color barrier.  but Rickey told Jackie to watch his back of threats and black mails.  But that did not scare Jackie.

Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan

Do you like a good mystery? This September I read Rangers Apprentice
by John Flannagan. In this spectacular story Will, a young boy, is
chasing his dream of becoming a battle school student. He doesn't
qualify and is forced to to go with anyone that might make use of him.
He is chosen to be a Ranger, nobody actually knows who the Rangers are
or how important they are. Since Will is now a Ranger he learns from
his master Halt, the way of the Rangers, to be lethal, stealthy, and
intelligent.
I personally enjoyed this book, and that should say a lot because I
don't I usually dislike reading books. There is something about the
mysterious Rangers that interest me in reading more. I would recommend
this book to people with patience. This book was enticing but you had
to wait for the UM PH. So if this sounds like you, you would love this
book just like me. If you are a picky reader this book is not for you.
This book has some parts that could be rather dull and repetitive but
it definitely makes up for it in the end. Enjoy!

Letters to God by Patrick Doughtie

What a fantastic book!

The book i read was Letters to God by Patrick Doughtie and the genre of the book is Non-Fiction. The book was about a little boy named Tyler, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of three and before he got cancer his dad was killed in a car accident on his way back from work. Before Tyler's dad died, Tyler saw his dad write letters to God, so he started to write letters. Since Tyler has cancer he has to get so many shots to be okay, so he gets a lot of attention and his older brother Ben feels left out. Finally Tyler gets to go back to school to be with all his friends and soon he would meet a new friend, because the regular mail man is going on vacation; so a man who was  fired, because he gets drunk, got the job back for awhile. The first mail man kept the letters that Tyler wrote and told the new guy about it and the new guy had no idea what to do with them. The new mail man and Tyler get along well and Tyler coach calls for him to play soccer and since his cancer is clearing up his mom says yes when they both beg. Then it happens at the game, what do you think will happen at the end?
I loved this book, because it was very detailed and each chapter left you hanging, so it made you want to read more and more. I think anyone who likes sad, but also happy endings would love this book.

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

The book I am reading is A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks, and the genre is realistic fiction and romance. The story is about Landon Carter, he is known as a bad boy and some adults say he is on the fast track to prison. He was required to go to the homecoming dance, but there was just one problem. He couldn't find a date. He thought about taking Jamie Sullivan. A shy girl, but she would do anything for anyone. Her dad is the Baptist minister at the town's church, so she always has her bible with her. Landon decided to ask her to the dance and Jamie said yes, but on one condition; he couldn't fall in love with her.

I really like this book because there is always something going on in the story. I think most girls would enjoy reading this book. Any girl that likes realistic fiction and romance would enjoy this book. I also think that anyone who likes Nicholas Sparks would enjoy A Walk To Remember too.

Crash by Jerry Spinelli

I read a spectacular book called Crash by Jerry Spinelli.  The gist of the story is that Crash starts to realize that Mike Deluca (Crash's best friend) starts to bully his neighbor, so Crash sticks up for him.  Mike and Crash start to change throughout the rest of the book.  the genre of this book is realistic fiction.  I like this book because even though it looks like it's about football it's something totally different.  If you are a person who likes book's with a twist I would really read this book.

                                                                                                                                                Matt N.- 7th grader

Schooled by Gordon Korman

I read the book schooled by Gordon Korman. This book is a realistic fiction. It is about a homeschooled, ungroomed hippie. He lives with his grandmother in a house that use to be a neighborhood inhabited by hippies and is now just one lone house. This house is technologically in the 60s. It has no TV, its powered by a generator and has no running water. But when cap's mother breaks her leg and has to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks cap will have to live with a normal family in a normal school while she recovers from her injury.
I liked this book because it made a lot of references to the 60s that I understood. Though this also why I wouldn't recommend this book to most people. I say this because this book mentions things related to Woodstock (not the bird) and Jimi Hendrix songs. That is why I would and wouldn't recommend this book .
